Your agents on your phone
Your agents keep running on your computer. The phone companion lets you reach them when you are away from your desk. Your phone gets a push notification when one needs you. You answer it, pass a review gate, or work through a review with the Companion.
The phone companion is a web app that your computer serves. There is nothing to install from an app store.
1. Turn on remote access
- Open Settings → Remote Access.
- Turn on Enable remote access.
- Under Publish beyond this Mac, choose how the phone reaches your computer. Tailscale Serve is the recommended choice. OpenTunnel is experimental.
Use a choice that gives a stable HTTPS address. Without one, the address changes on every start, and push notifications don’t work.
2. Pair the phone
- Under Pair a phone, a QR code shows.
- Point the phone’s camera at it and open the link.
The code carries the access key, so treat a photo of it like a password. The key changes every time remote access starts. After a restart, open the app on your phone and use Scan QR code in it to scan the new code.
3. Turn on notifications
On iOS, a page can ask for notifications only once it is on the Home Screen:
- In Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen.
- Open SimpleEdit from the Home Screen icon.
- Tap Turn on notifications on the Sessions screen.
You then get a push notification when:
- an agent is waiting for you, for example for a permission or an answer
- a workflow task needs you, or its lead was woken for a decision
- a review gate is ready for your review
What you can do on the phone
The phone has three tabs: Sessions, PRs and Backlog.
- Answer a waiting agent. Open the session and type into its terminal.
- Follow a workflow. The lead’s session shows the workflow’s graph and progress. Open a gate’s review and Accept the gate there. Start, Cancel and Dismiss stay on the desktop.
- Review. The PRs tab opens the same Review Room. Ask the Companion, draft comments and mark files Viewed. Threads, drafts and Viewed marks are shared with the desktop.
- Start work from the backlog. The Backlog tab lists the items you and your agents parked. Start one when you are ready.
